This one song is currently fitting the stage I am in my life. Growing up, finally becoming an adult. It’s crazy, seeing a friend leaving from 10 years of friendship and getting new life’s, my relationship I had before getting broken and forgotten as I become a new person. A new girl, kind of like this new character Melanie has displayed. A awakening of some sort. I’m finally at that path where I understand who I am. And it’s refreshing after years of trauma and neglect. I’ve started meditating and get perspective of how others see life. How I can better understand it. Life and death. I’ve always been in my own little bubble, and it is very fascinating to get to know new things that change over time. Even though I think change is terrifying. Almost overstimulating at times. - I think this song represents that it’s okay. It’s okay to feel this way, to find your own voice and identity. Take your time to find who you are as a person. Gender and sexuality can wait, or you can make your own choices along the way. We’re all just different souls trapped in bodies. Meat and bones with a brain and a heart. Society makes us all live by a certain standard, unrealistic ones that should portray how you should act and look, like a Barbie doll. Women like me might feel sexualised and trapped by this corrupt society. Same with men. I like how Melanie touches on this issue, and almost read my mind completely.

This song is so goddamn similar to what happened to me in the past. How I started, how it changed, how I lost it, how I grew from it, and how I changed as a person and how hard it was to go through it being lonely and isolated because of online schooling, with nobody to talk to but me because I lost all my friends and had basically nobody but my family. I’m so happy I have a song I can relate to. The lines “show me who I am becoming” and “I’ll sit with my silence, fix all my conflict” really made me reflect to what I had to go through and really showed me who I matured to be and how literally in the second line I pointed out was exactly what I had to do in order to fix myself.

The gift that forever keeps giving, I just got off work an hour ago and I’ve been having such a rough time with adjusting to all of the new changes that have been invading my life so quickly although I am grateful it’s all so scary. PLUTO is probably my favorite on PORTALS, it makes me so happy to listen to it. Pluto (as a planet) represents change and transformation. PLUTO is about how much Melanie has changed since she first started music. In the beginning of the song, Mel seems to be in distress. She sings, “Help me, let go”. Mel wants us to know that it isn’t easy to just let go of who you are and go through such a drastic change. Melanie also sings about her desire to “sever the ties” with her old friends who she thought were forever. We don’t know everything about Melanie’s personal life, but it’s possible that she let go of a lot of toxic people before writing PLUTO. This could also be a call-out to those people. In the main chorus, Melanie sings “Pluto, destroy me”. Shes asking for who she is to be completely destroyed so she can be changed into a new person. She wants to explore her new self, and be aware of who she is becoming. Melanie then sings “Ill sit with my silence, fix all my conflict”. Before you change yourself, you have to first clear up all the problems you have. This could mean fixing friendships and being on good terms with everyone. This song is so relatable on a number of levels. My favorite "planet" Pluto is currently in my sign, Aquarius. I can relate with shedding layers of who I once was. Part of the transformation, is letting go of the past. I can relate with having done a lot of trauma and Shadow work recently. So much transformation and change right now, in so many challenging and yet beautiful ways. Like a butterfly coming out of the cocoon.
